I want to write about a very important topic in spiritual wellness. It’s what I like to call energetic wellness. If you are thinking that you simply can’t fit another piece into your wellness puzzle I beg you to lend me your mind for a moment. What I am going to share are some very easy ways to cleanse your energy field. One of the most important things I have learned in my journey as a healer is the necessity to own my energy. Most of us walk through our daily life’s surrounded by people that are not aware of energy. In these situations even those of us who are aware can easily forget these simple tools. I know I do. When my adrenaline is racing from stress, and I’m ready to attack those around me I know that I have taken on too much of other people’s energy. Thankfully I know I can very easily protect and clear my energy. Here is how I do it.
1) Salt baths: Taking time for even a quick bath is a great way to relax and de-charge. When sea salt is added a 20 minute bath will cleanse your energy and help you detox toxins that may be making your sick. I offer bags of salt especially for this purpose on my Etsy page. I like to keep a bag of salts in my bathroom so I can quickly shake some into a bath I have drawn for myself or my son. Add essential oils for aromatherapy benefits. Lavender will calm, a tiny dab of peppermint will soothe aches and pains and orange will invigorate. When I have had a rough day and simple can’t seem to shake the stress or sorrow that I am experiencing I draw a bath as soon as I get home. There is no need to bring that energy into my home life. Therefore I literally let it all wash down the drain.
2) Burn Sage: Wands of dried sage leaves can be found at natural food stores, spiritual bookstores and of course online. Be cautious as to not overspend when purchasing sage. This simple yet effective tool is not meant to be expensive. I have found large bundles for about $3 each at a little Mexican trinket stand located in a downtown Los Angeles food court. Once you know the look and smell of sage it’s easy to find in nature. Whenever I go hiking I pick a few springs of sage from the abundant bushes covering the local hills. Sage has been used by Native Americans and shamans for it’s energetic cleansing properties. Burning sage is similar to burning incense. You light to wand to get it smoking, then wave it around yourself and your space. I have a small metal pot that I use to extinguish the sage once I have cleared my space. A little bit goes a long way and the smell can be very strong. If you want to clear a space, yet can’t create smoke in the space simply place a few leave of sage in a bag or bowl and let it act as potpourri . The energetic properties of the sage will clear your space if that is your intention. This is a great trick for keeping your workspace clean. When I clean or organize the house I usually burn sage to finish the process. Cleaning usually shifts energy in your house. I feel like burning sage is a nice finishing touch to help facilitate a fresh feeling on all levels.
3) Move your body: One of the biggest energy zappers is worrying too much about the others in our life. When we are stressed out about keeping our bosses happy, anxious about family expectations, worried about impressing friends and relatives or striving to uphold a perfect parent persona we lose sight of who we are really living for. When it comes down to it, if you aren’t happy then you aren’t going to make anybody else around you happy. So what makes you happy? What is free, natural and fun? Body movement! I don’t mean going to yoga and beating yourself up to be the best in class, or stumbling all over yourself or even strutting your stuff in a dance class. I mean getting down and funky like nobody is watching, because literally nobody is watching. It’s time to stop worrying about what others think. We spend too much time and energy on others, give yourself some groove time. The body movement that really gets me in the zone is hula hooping. Give me about twenty minutes with my hoop, some awesome music and an empty room and I am golden. I can simply get a good spin going and find myself twirling and dancing inside the hoop while Coldplay’s Paradise plays and I feel like all those worries that have latched onto me simply spin right off. I recommend dancing because the combination of soul shifting vibrations and the opportunity to move and sweat with joy are a fast and free way to raise your endorphins and literally shake it off. Taking even 5 minutes per day to just let you be you is a simple way to remind yourself who comes first.
4) Get outside: Sometimes all it takes is a walk around the block to re-charge. Getting outside is not only an act of moving your body and shifting the energy inside of it, but in nature you can connect with your guides. Fairies especially love nature, so if you want to connect with them there is no better place to do that then out in nature. Even if you live in an urban area you have no excuse. Go to a local park or a beach. You can lean up against a tree and give it your excess worries silently. You can slip off your shoes and ground yourself. Notice how you feel after you do this. Do you feel stronger? Do you stand up taller? Do you feel supported? Even before I was on my so called spiritual path I remember the magnificence of the ocean would always humble me. The rhythm and power of the waves always reminded me that there is a rhythm and order to life and that there is power beyond my comprehension. Water can cleanse your aura and recharge your body.
These are only a few of my energetic tools, but they are my favorite because they are so simple and effective. I will continue to share more tools in the future, but this is a start. Can you recognize when you might need to use one of these techniques? Let me know how they work for you or if you have any energetic tools that you absolutely love.
